Molecular diagnostics. Personalized medicine. Better outcomes.

The common thread between these important facets of healthcare in our technologically
advanced society is access to tests and techniques to diagnose and develop care plans associated
with certain bacteria and viruses that cause infections and illnesses.

From Head to Toe

Through our advanced diagnostic innovations, Diax LabsTM has developed a suite of molecular
laboratory tests that gives physicians a better understanding of their patients’ health and provides
accurate, timely molecular information as the foundation for personalized medicine and targeted
care plans.

These molecular tests cover head-to-toe diagnostics for respiratory illnesses, urinary tract
infections, wound pathogens, nail fungal pathogens and COVID-19 and other viruses.

As the name implies, a respiratory pathogen panel (RPP) tests for pathogens viruses, bacteria, or other illness-causing organisms – in the nose, throat and lungs. Symptoms for various infections are often similar, making an accurate diagnosis important to ensure the right treatment. And while most respiratory infections cause mild to moderate symptoms, an infection can be serious and even life-threatening for infants and young children, the elderly and anyone who is immunocompromised.

Urinary Tract Infections

Molecular testing for urinary tract infections offers the gold standard for high sensitivity and specificity in detecting slow-growing or difficult-to-culture microorganisms and also can detect antibiotic resistance. Accurate results are reported within 24 hours of receiving a urine sample in the lab as compared to time-consuming and often-inaccurate results from traditional culture-based methods.

Wound Pathogens

Molecular testing for slow-to-heal wounds – diabetic ulcers, pressure sores and venous ulcers – rapidly detects and differentiates ≈99% of the most common bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens and polymicrobial infections. Armed with a clear picture of the root cause, antimicrobial resistance can be identified to improve both wound treatment and patient outcomes.

Molecular Onychomycosis Nail Fungus Testing

Nail fungus has negative attributes beyond being unattractive and embarrassing. From a health perspective, nail fungus can be contagious, painful and have an unpleasant odor. Using a patient’s nail clippings, Diax Labs’ molecular testing identifies and differentiates ≈99% of the most common fungal pathogens in the nail tissue. Notably faster than traditional culture testing, molecular testing is medically necessary for an accurate diagnosis and personalized, quality care.

COVID-19 and Virus Testing

Using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing technology, Diax Labs’ molecular tests detect even a very tiny amount of COVID-19 and also accurately diagnose 14 other viruses. Our molecular techniques are extremely sensitive and specific, can detect several viruses simultaneously and provide a rapid diagnosis.

Looking Ahead

In subsequent blogs in this series, we’ll explore PCR testing, the benefits of molecular testing over traditional testing methods and the tremendous importance of molecular testing for improving patient outcomes.
