Pandemic: This word has changed the delivery of all goods and services from coast to coast and border to border.

Diax Labs has quickly adapted to the changing dynamics of service delivery by establishing safe, simple procedures for curbside diagnostics. As a result, physicians and their healthcare staff can continue to provide our same comprehensive range of laboratory diagnostic services to ensure continuity of care for patients, eliminate angst associated with populated waiting rooms, avoid potential exposure to Covid-19 and comply with nationwide efforts to flatten the curve of the spread of this deadly virus.

Touch Point 1: Telemedicine

Telemedicine is becoming an increasingly popular tool embraced by patients and medical staff alike as the first touch point for medical care, particularly as society utilizes social distancing as a public health tool. Healthcare providers are able to assess medical care remotely and order appropriate care quickly, including diagnostic lab tests.

Diax Labs is working closely with medical professionals to provide safe, accurate services for healthcare delivery models that have changed quickly and dramatically amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Touch Point 2: Curbside Diagnostics

Diax Labs’ curbside diagnostics works one of several ways depending on whether a healthcare worker must perform the lab test or if the patient can self-administer the test. In all cases, contact is limited to the patient and one safely attired healthcare professional.

In each of the scenarios presented below, telemedicine is generally the first step in which a physician conducts the patient visit remotely to eliminate patient contact while still providing timely patient care. A laboratory test can then be conducted by a healthcare professional wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in one of the following three scenarios.

Administered Curbside by a Healthcare Professional

  • Following telemed consultation, patient arrives at physician’s office for scheduled lab test, calls front desk to announce arrival and remains curbside in automobile
  • Healthcare professional wearing PPE meets patient curbside, administers test quickly and returns to doctor’s office with sample while patient leaves
  • Doctor’s office sends lab test to Diax Labs and receives results by fax within 24-36 hours

Administered Privately by a Healthcare Professional

  • Following telemed consultation, patient arrives at physician’s office for scheduled lab test, calls front desk to announce arrival
  • Healthcare professional wearing PPE meets patient at doctor’s office door, immediately takes patient to private room to avoid wait time, administers blood draw or swab within minutes, and patient leaves without any additional human contact
  • Doctor’s office sends lab test to Diax Labs and receives results by fax within 24-36 hours

Self-administered by the Patient

  • Following telemed consultation, patient arrives at physician’s office for scheduled lab test, calls front desk to announce arrival and remains curbside in automobile
  • Healthcare professional wearing PPE meets patient curbside, provides patient with materials to self administer test + pre-paid FedEx packet and patient leaves
  • Patient self administers test in privacy, puts sample in FedEx packet, drops off pre-paid envelope at FedEx office or drop box
  • Diax Labs faxes results to physician within 24-36 hours

Send a collector to the patient’s home

  • On a case by case basis Diax labs can send one of our certified collectors to the patient’s home to capture the sample.

These three scenarios share three key benefits important to both patients and physicians: an initial telemedicine consultation followed by curbside diagnostics with no hassles, no additional risks and no close distance concerns.

Training and Support

Many physicians’ offices are currently stretched thin, and Diax Labs is providing critical training and support to ensure accuracy, safety, timeliness and minimal patient contact.

One-on-One Training. As with any new service, medical teams may want hands-on training before interacting with patients, particularly true for curbside diagnostics amid a global pandemic. Diax Labs can provide remote teleconference training or one-on-one training to ensure proper collection techniques and avoid reporting delays while also protecting patients and themselves.

At-home Collections. There may be an instance in which a laboratory test must be collected at a patient’s home after a physician/patient telemed consultation. Any collection at a patient’s home should follow strict guidelines, and Diax Labs can consult remotely by teleconference or provide one-on-one training to ensure a safe, proper procedures.

Mobile Collection Assistance. In addition to valuable training, Diax Labs can mobilize human support on a case-by-case basis for both high-volume physicians and high-complexity tests. Our mobile collectors are trained extensively on safe sample collection and specimen handling for accurate testing the first time every time.

Continuity of Care

While the Covid-19 pandemic has drastically altered the daily lives of all citizens, continuity of patient care remains paramount. Diax Labs has adapted quickly to ensure continuity of care of our comprehensive suite of laboratory tests:

  • Prescription Medication Monitoring
  • UCompliDx panel for medications commonly prescribed for cardiovascular, diabetic and inflammatory conditions
